Exercise of the Month – Squat Jumps

Whilst the traditional squat is a great exercise, the squat jump adds variation and is an excellent technique to learn as it can be performed anywhere without the need for additional equipment. Along with feeling this in the quads, it works your cardiovascular system and is therefore ideal for building overall fitness.

Squat jumps are ideal for all fitness levels. If starting out you may find you lack the flexibility to squat down to 90 degrees. If you want to increase the difficulty, either perform more repetitions or hold dumbbells in your hands to add resistance.

1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms by your side.

2. Start by doing a regularĀ squat, then engage your core and jump up explosively, bringing your arms forward.

3. When you land, lower your body back into the squat position to complete one rep.

4. Repeat for the desired number of reps.
